Write airplane in the air with man watching

Of course you know about the Wright brothers.

But did you know about the Wright sister?

Write airplane in the air with man watching

She actually had the brains in the family.

Some believe Wilber and Orville never would have gotten their airplanes off the ground without her.

Katherine Wright was the youngest in her family, and the only one to graduate from college. She got a degree from Oberlin and taught high school Latin while managing her brothers' bicycle shop which paid for their airplane experiments.

Katie encouraged the brothers when they were tempted to quit trying to invent flying machines. She translated German engineering documents they used in their work. She was a passenger in some of their flights.

Shy Wilbur and Orville didn't graduate from high school, and lacked Katie's charm and her strong will. She was the one who led the communications efforts that protected the Wright legacy. In one instance, she spoke in French at an important European exposition.

She was also a noted suffragette.

When she was 52 she got married and Orville stopped speaking to her because the three siblings had a long-time pact not to marry. He did come to her deathbed a couple of years later.

How do I know about this? I found out through a guilty pleasure, Drunk History. (The Wright episode is Season 4 episode 6.)
I decided years ago that making drunkenness funny in movies et al is insidious and that I don't approve.
But I can't stop watching Drunk History.

Oh, and I also looked up Katherine Wright online.
