Happy Memory CHALLENGE! Challenge 2: Father

One evening Daddy (aka DOD, Dear Old Dad) took my friend Lois and me to the 17th Avenue Drive-In. As we approached the theater, he said, “Oh boy! I’m going to a movie! I’m going to three movies!” His enthusiasm was contagious, and I remember thinking how lovable it made him. (One of the movies was Village of the Damned.)

During the pandemic I went through old letters and found many examples of his unusual humor. I mean, how many people get letters from their fathers like this?

He was a musician, playing trombone in the army band in WWII. We have ongoing memories of that side of him. One is that he used to play the Moonlight Sonata on the piano downstairs as we went to sleep at night.

Daddy gave the world’s best hugs because he always said “Mmmmmm!” while hugging us.
