Happy Memory CHALLENGE! Challenge 16: Art

Netsuke of sleeping child with a rat

I’ve had several incidents when I was stopped cold in my tracks by the power and beauty of ancient, monumental art.

And I love certain artists so much that I have been compelled to see their art multiple times.

But my Challenge Memory is of a charming netsuke, a tiny artifact from Japan that made me smile rather than tremble. I remember thinking that if once in my life I could make something I like that much, it would be enough.

And you know what? I kind of have.

(I don't remember at all what the netsuke looked like, only how it made me feel. I believe this one is more beautiful, more of a masterpiece, than the one that captured me.)

Breathtaking. But not on a human scale I can relate to in my own small world of creativity.
